12.7.18 Interpretation of "Magnificent" By U2

Song: Magnificent
Artist: U2
Year: 2008
Source: TV
Trivia: Coldplay have regularly played the song prior to the band taking the stage at their concerts on the Viva la Vida Tour.

Summary:  A song about love and how powerful of a weapon it can be during trying times.

Lyrics:
Magnificent
Oh, oh, magnificent

I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that and ever after I haven't had a clue
Only to break rhyme
This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue

Oh, oh
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar

I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn't have a choice but to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise

Oh, oh
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar

Justified till we die, you and I will magnify, oh-oh
The Magnificent
Magnificent, oh, oh

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love unites our hearts
Justified till we die, you and I will magnify, oh-oh
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Magnificent

Interpretation:

Love is everything, love precedes hatred. Love is the common thing which we share across boundaries and at times illogical.

Being born in a specific time in a particular universe. Trying to piece things together may not pay off. Instead focusing on spreading love would benefit all. There might be paths that lead to hurt and unimaginable agony but that is just the preface. There is a hidden path that can be reached through love and kindness. This kindness or joy that is found at the end of this path is enough to heal the scars acquired along the way.

When born, we do not get to select our families or society. Call it fate or divine interference it does
not matter, as it is our job to spread love and help those who are hurt. Everything can be beautiful, it is in the eye of beholder, if everyone see things positively then the world would be in a better shape. Only through love we can uncover the true potential of humanity.

There is a possibility in the future where we live in a world where there is no pain and it is understood by all that we should be united in hearts and mind to be a happy civilization.
Imagine the children being born in this era, who would be all for the greatness of US rather I.

The song can also be interpreted as the author praising God. Song is said to be inspired by the prayer of Mary (mother of Jesus)

This is how an angel cries

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself (myself)
Blame it on my ADD baby
Maybe I'm a different breed
Maybe I'm not listening
So blame it on my ADD baby

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the

Blame it on my ADD baby
Blame it on my ADD
Blame it

La la la la la, la la la la la ooh
La la la la la, la la la la la ooh

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

Sail with me into the dark
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me sail with me (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me sail with me (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me sail with me (sail)

Interpretation:
This is how I show my love
I made it in my mind because
I blame it on my ADD baby

Apparently there has been some disturbance in the relationship(rel).
Where he is unable to express his love in a way she understands.
Expressing his love for her in his way, which is not the usual way is
proving difficult for the rel. He is aware of this and he is tempted
to blame it on his ADD and sail through.

This is how an angel cries
Blame it on my own sick pride
Blame it on my ADD baby
Blame it on my AD

Sail!

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself (myself)
Blame it on my ADD baby
Maybe I'm a different breed
Maybe I'm not listening
So blame it on my ADD baby

He is having difficulty in communicating with the other person.
Though he is doing everything right by himself, he is ending up
hurting the other person. (The kind of thing that happens when
you are in rel with the wrong person.) In the end as she is hurt
even he is hurt deeply, the feeling of loneliness is being seen
making a move on him. He does not have pride but that is the way
the world sees him.

Being unable to express his thoughts and love like others is
tearing him up from the inside. He wants to see an easy way out
(suicide) He ponders what he is missing out or what he is not
doing right. Feeling left out, being the outcast or a foreigner
not knowing his origin and feeling left out from the herd,
he doesnt mind getting called out that he has ADD (which may
be an misunderstanding of him by the world)
by others

Sail!
Sail!

Sail with me into the dark
Sail with me into the dark (sail)
Sail with me (sail)

He has no intentions of leaving her, he wants her
to stay with him. Just like a sail that moves based on
external force. He wants her to control the sail
and guide him in the right path.

10.7.18 Interpretation of "Guantanamera" by The Sandpipers

Song:                  Guantanamera
Artist:                 Sandpipers (Originally belonged to The Weavers 1963)
Year:                   1966
Trivia:                 Noted patriotic song of Cuba
Source:               Old cassette titled "Mementoes"
Language:          Spanish

Summary: Be honest and do your part in saving the world by helping the poor.

Lyrics:
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crece la palma
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carm? N encendido
Mi verso es un ciervo herido
Que busca en el monte amparo
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Cultivo una rosa blanca
En julio como en enero
Para el amigo sincero
Que me da su mano franca
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Con los pobres de la tierra
Quiero yo mi suerte echar
El arroyo de la sierra
Me complace m? S que el mar
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

English Translation:

I am a truthful man,
From the land of the palm.
Before dying, I want to
Share these poems of my soul.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

My verses are light green,
But they are also flaming red.
My verses are like a wounded fawn,
Seeking refuge in the mountain.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

I cultivate a white rose
In June and in January
For the sincere friend
Who gives me his hand.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

And for the cruel one who would tear out
This heart with which I live.
I cultivate neither thistles nor nettles
I cultivate a white rose.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

I know about a fatal evil
Among the unspeakable shames:
The enslavement of human beings
Is the great shame of the world!

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

With the poor people of this earth,
I want to share my lot.
With the poor people of this earth,
I want to share my lot.
The little streams of the mountains
Please me more than the sea.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

Interpretation:
I am a truthful man,
From the land of the palm.
Before dying, I want to
Share these poems of my soul.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

Guantanamera from Guantánamo, feminine" indicating a woman from Guantánamo.
The person is from CUBA, where palm trees are abundant. He\She has lead a peaceful and truthful life. He wants to convey the beauty of life with his poems.

My verses are light green,
But they are also flaming red.
My verses are like a wounded fawn,
Seeking refuge in the mountain.

His thoughts\ideas are peaceful and some of them are wild. Few are lost and disproved, which are seeking refuge and he is helping them rebuild , providing all the necessary time and effort that is required to renovate it.

Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera

I cultivate a white rose
In June and in January
For the sincere friend
Who gives me his hand.

And for the cruel one who would tear out
This heart with which I live.
I cultivate neither thistles nor nettles
I cultivate a white rose.

Friendship he offers is pure, it takes time to cultivate true friendship but and would take a lot to break it. He strongly believes in returning good for bad. In hope that bad can be defeated by good.

I know about a fatal evil
Among the unspeakable shames:
The enslavement of human beings
Is the great shame of the world!

With the poor people of this earth,
I want to share my lot.
With the poor people of this earth,
I want to share my lot.
The little streams of the mountains
Please me more than the sea.

He regrets not able to do much about the evil that exists in the world. Terrible things that happen to good and innocent people should be prevented. Sadly we are very far from a peaceful world, which is of great shame to us humans.

He wants to share whatever he has left from his life to the poor people. Wanting to do everything possible from his end to make the lives of the poor\suffering a little better. Seeking pleasure in the small joys of life rather than the multitude of wealth.

Source:                Recommended by a friend - few days back

Summary: We as a dominant species of this planet, should get our act together.

Lyrics:
The sky is a neighborhood
So keep it down
The heart is a storybook
A star burned out

The sky is a neighborhood
Don't make a sound
Lights coming up ahead
Don't look now

The sky is a neighborhood
The sky is a neighborhood
Don't look now

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Mind is a battlefield
All hope is gone
Trouble to the right and left
Whose side you're on?

Thoughts like a minefield
I'm a ticking bomb
Maybe you should watch your step
Don't get lost

The sky is a neighborhood
The sky is a neighborhood
Don't get lost

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

The sky is a neighborhood

The heart is a storybook
A star burned out
Something coming up ahead
Don't look now

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

(The sky is a neighborhood)
Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
(The sky is a neighborhood)
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

The sky is a neighborhood

Interpretation:

The sky is a neighborhood
So keep it down
The heart is a storybook
A star burned out

The sky is a neighborhood
Don't make a sound
Lights coming up ahead
Don't look now

The universe does not belong just to us, there are uncountable number of alien races
who might be watching us. Watching us and our hearts from the begining of time.
Judging us , seeking the maturity in us. Earthlings need to sort all the differences
between them and come through as one race. We may be running out of time, so we need
to get our act together.

The sky is a neighborhood
The sky is a neighborhood
Don't look now

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Thinking we are the only ones in the universe and our actions have no consequences
is wrong, we are knocking on the gates of a very powerful neighborhood, who may not
reply in kind, considering our world history and our hearts.

Oh my dear
Heaven is a big bang now
Gotta get to sleep somehow
Bangin' on the ceiling
Bangin' on the ceiling
Keep it down

Mind is a battlefield
All hope is gone
Trouble to the right and left
Whose side you're on?

Thoughts like a minefield
I'm a ticking bomb
Maybe you should watch your step
Don't get lost

There are people who want to make this world a better place, people who have tried
and failed. Some of them are immune to the things going on around them. Most of them
are conflicted between right and wrong. They try to find a middle ground or be neutral
which only benefits the oppressor. All things which are done have consequences. Sticking
to our consciousness is essential, else we ll be sucked into the blackhole of our
human desires.

we are being watched, we are the dominant species of this planet. Its time we act like it.
We may need to prove our worth as a species for aliens to contact us.

8/7/18 Interpretation of "I believe in you" Rumer

Song:                    I believe in you
Artist:                  Rumer
Year:                    2011
Trivia:                  Played in the End Credits of Johnny English Reborn Movie
Source:                Johnny English Reborn end credits

Summary: A soothing song, liked it the first time I heard it. Its about her lover whom she believes more than herself.

Lyrics:
When you’re sleeping, I watch you for hours
Feels like reading
Or gazing at stars
Never touch you, no
Just waiting for one to fall to Earth
Brighten up my empty world

‘Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
You make it better
You keep on coming through
So much, I don’t believe it
But I believe in you

Heroes win
But sometimes they fail
Some people can’t believe it
But I need you human anyway
Nothing less
I want my star to fall to Earth
It’s where we love; it’s where we hurt

‘Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
You make it better
You keep on coming through
So much, I don’t believe it
But I believe in you

(You make it better, baby)
You make it better, baby

I believe in you
(You make it better, baby)

You make it better
You keep on coming through
So much, I don’t believe it
But I believe in you

Interpretation:

When you’re sleeping, I watch you for hours
Feels like reading
Or gazing at stars
Never touch you, no
Just waiting for one to fall to Earth
Brighten up my empty world

‘Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
You make it better
You keep on coming through
So much, I don’t believe it
But I believe in you

Falling for the person she loves time and again, believes the other person
so much that though she feels eternity is not enough to comprehend him, she
still trusts in him. Waiting for that person to awaken from slumber and
take her home to her happy place away from the world of misery and pain.

Brightening up her life every hour beating all the odds and proving her
faith is in the right place. Unbelievable things are made to believe through
him.

The movie Johnny English Reborn is almost the complete depiction of this song.
The story between Rowan and Rosamund is like the core of this song.

Heroes win
But sometimes they fail
Some people can’t believe it
But I need you human anyway
Nothing less
I want my star to fall to Earth
It’s where we love; it’s where we hurt

People fail, its part of human nature. It is ok to fail and let go, because
that is what makes us human. To better ourselves and to soak up the
experiences to create something new. She longs to see the human side of him
she wants to give back the love and help him heal when he is hurt. She does
not seek bad things to happen, but that even if it happens she is always
there to brigten up his day and help him get up.

7/7/18 Interpretation of "Aerials" by System of a Down

Song:                    Aerials
Artist:                  System Of Down
Year:                    2008
Trivia:                  System of a Down's first number-one hit
Source:                TV @ home.
Language:           English

Summary: Life and how we live it selfishly.

Lyrics:

Life is a waterfall
We're one in the river
And one again after the fall

Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?

'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life

Life is a waterfall
We drink from the river
Then we turn around and put up our walls

Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?

'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize

Interpretation:
 Life is a waterfall
We're one in the river
And one again after the fall

Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?

Life is like a waterfall and it consists of all the people whom you know and don't know.
Your life is intertwined with the life's of others in ways you know and don't know.
Small or big, rich or poor - we all have to go through life and the things it dishes out.
Looking and searching for the meaning of life through the never ending abyss, we learn
what is required of us by society while forgetting who we truly are. In hope to achieve
the greatness but once acquired we are not satisfied.

'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay

And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose

We seek knowledge, wealth, power but in the process we cross many lines and blur them.
Being selfish , with our ever waning humanity - we manage to find a higher goal after
achieving what is needed. We as a species always want more. Pouncing from one tornado
of lies and destruction to another just to further our agenda. We seek variety without
knowing the price of it. Seeking more than what is required has its consequences which
we do not care about the trail we leave behind which is supposed to inspire the
generations to come. Embedding in everyone the spirit of wining and thriving no matter
the terrain or situation showcases our ego-centric society.

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life

Life is a waterfall
We drink from the river
Then we turn around and put up our walls

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize

Taking what we want always and giving nothing in return by putting up walls (literally sometimes)

will just harm each other in this journey called life in which we all are together.
Author invites us to come out of our narrow thinking and see the bigger picture to
achieve true freedom. Freeing your thinking and clearing the blocks from your eyes
will help you see the eternal purpose and working of life.
