Band: Dire Straits
Trivia: Written based on the Falklands War - Wikipedia
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Someday you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be
Brothers in arms
The character is reminded of his home and how differnt it is from where he currently stands\ the situation he is in. i.e the battlefield which is his new home. The character hopes to return to his farms away from the horrendous war. He misses his calm and peaceful farming life as he had to go to war.
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
The character now talks about his comrades and how they stuck together through the hardship and suffering of the war like a band of brothers. He is happy and thankful for the fact that they do not desert the wounded who are carried through hell, even though they aren't related to each other.
Two Brothers (2004 film)
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We are fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
There are many worlds out there but only one that we know off sustains life and happens to be where you and me and everyone exists. But still we live in our own isolated worlds and jumping from one bubble to another for our benefits. The character feeling all this in his end moments bids a faint farewell and takes comfort in the fact that everyone dies one day or the other, but he knows that this can be better and it doesn't have to be this way for anyone\everyone to meet his end. How does war make sense when you are fighting against another band of brothers who care for each other , the same way he was cared for.
