21/06/18 Massive Attack - Teardrop

Song: Teardrop
Band: Massive Attack
Trivia & Source: House MD intro theme
Interpretation

Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath

The character believes that love has to be expressed through acts and not just words. She says that she would like to show love fearlessly. She is urged to show love and in the process feels good in doing so and feels like a burden is released.

Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath

She still feel sadness but the sadness is unable to turn off the fire burning inside her. She is aware of the consequences of love but still is willing to act upon it.

Nine night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath

Nine night is Jamaican multi-day wakes or dead yard. This is when friend and families of the diseased come together to celebrate the life of the person who has passed away.
So here the character in the song feels a sense of loss in her as she has given into her acts of love.
Like the flowers that bloom on spring, she feels that bittersweet experience as the after effect of her love.

Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath

She defines her love as pure and honest as the eye. She knows the person in the mirror so well, that there is no such thing as an open secret within her.

Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath

The tears from the parts of the hurt she has felt due to love, is still unable to put out the eternal flame of love that is inside of her. She is aware of this and hopes that the tears may put out the flame, but cant do much as this is happening to the person in the mirror which is herself but not her.

Stumbling a little
Stumbling a little

She is stumbling over her thoughts of not trying to not act on her feelings but its just a stumble and not enough to end the fire.

Actual Meaning of the Song:
The song's lyricist Elizabeth Fraser wrote this song when she lost her friend Jeff Buckley.
So the song's core revolves around she loving this person but unable to express it to him as he is no more. No matter how honest and true it is, she is left powerless.
